Californication, Showtime’s controversial show, brings David Duchovny a second Golden Globe.

I’ve decided to write about Californication as season 2 is to begin filming next month, April 2008, and will be released this summer. I also find the controversies it raised quite interesting; it got sued by Red Hot Chilly Peppers because the name of the series coinciding with the name of one of their albums; several organizations boycotted the series because of its content (bringing a massive pull off from advertisers after the pilot episode).
The series was created by Tom Kapinos and leading star is David Duchovny. Californication’s plot follows Hank Moody (David Duchovny), a troubled writer, as he moves to Los Angeles. His job problems and the taste for beautiful women complicate relations with ex-girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone) and daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin).
Scenes like the one in which Moody has oral sex with a nun in a dream, or the one in which he and a woman smoke marihuana, drink a lot and then start vomiting, brought a lot ofboycotting resulting in the withdrawal of 75% of the advertisers after the first episode. Still, the explicit content of the show seems to attract viewers and got the series pretty good reviews. Californication got nominated for 2 Golden Globes and David Duchovny won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy prize.
We will be discussing each episode here, at Tvdramas.info, so be sure to watch the first episode (I know you’re going to watch the whole series afterwards) and we’ll share insights about the plot, the acting, the characters, whatever seems of interest.
